How are Persona high definition lenses made?
The Persona is the culmination of many technologies, including complex lens design
software, CNC multi axis machines and laser science. It is the result of many years
of R&D in the optical community to arrive at a viable lens product that performs
at a level far beyond the previous benchmark for visual clarity.
To create a Persona lens, the laboratory computes the patient prescription, frame
and fitting measurements and lens material choice. The lens design software then
calculates a point file, which instructs the CNC machines the tool path to follow.
There are two similar CNC machines which create the complex surface geometry; the
first a generator which removes excess lens material and prepares the surface for
polishing, and the second, a polisher, which follows the identical tool path as
the generator to ensure the entire surface geometry is polished completely.
The final step is to engrave semi-visible reference markings onto the lens surface
for subsequent processing and identification. These engravings are performed by
a task specific CNC laser instrument which uses the same lens database as the CNC
machines to precisely engrave the marking onto the lens.
An inspection follows to ensure that the Persona lenses meet the stringent requirements
demanded by the laboratory so that every wearer of Persona high definition lenses
will be entirely delighted with their new lenses. Rigorous quality assurance procedures
are in place to maintain all processes at their optimum levels of performance.
The final step in preparing the lenses for wear is to size, shape and mount the
lenses into the patient’s frame. The laboratory uses sophisticated edging machines
to contour the lenses, and skilled technicians to assemble the lenses into the frame.
A final all inclusive quality control inspection completes the fabrication steps,
prior to delivering the completed glasses to the Eye Care Professional, who in turn
will dispense the glasses to the patient.
